Many people invest a lot of time, effort, and even money to discover their purpose. And once they discover their purpose (or come close), they find themselves stuck, confused, or in a holding pattern. Some find themselves more confused than before. So, what do I do? The answer might seem overly simple, but it is…Continue.
Purpose is not a single event or moment in time. It is not the final destination, but the starting (or starting over) point. Purpose is the place from which you launch out of the ordinary into your true life’s calling and into your ultimate destiny. Purpose is not a resolution or a goal, but it is the intention that establishes you in this world. It is the mission, motivation, and the plan. And once you’ve discovered, and in some cases simply acknowledged it, you must “walk in it.” What does it mean to “walk” in your purpose? It means to be governed by it. It means to make your decisions and live your life using your purpose as the guiding principle. How you prepare, how you plan, what you do, and when you do it are determined by its relationship to your purpose. And regardless of your circumstances or the situation, you must commit to Continue.
It won’t always be easy. Sometimes, you may lose your focus, but don’t stop. Reconnect to your purpose, get back on track, and Continue. Occasionally, life may seem to overwhelm you and other things (i.e. finances, relationships, etc.) might interrupt your commitment to doing your purpose. You’re not the only one who this happened to. Rearrange your priorities and re-commit to your purpose.
So, you might say or think, “I know my purpose, and I feel like I’ve been committed to my purpose, but it doesn’t seem like I’m going anywhere.” Let me say to you that there are various (and recurring) stages to operating in purpose. For example, there is preparation. It is in this stage that you gain the knowledge you need to accomplish those things associated with your purpose. Then, there is training. During this stage, you are allowed to practice the skills you’ve acquired and need to do what you are purposed to do. It may not look like you’re practicing, but the skills transfer. Think of David when he was a young boy in the fields minding the sheep. It may not have looked like he was practicing to be king, but ultimately that was the case. Next, there is positioning. This is the strategic stage when the right people and opportunities are being aligned to get you to where you are intended to be. There is also the stage known as performing. When you are performing, you are actually doing your purpose. Finally, there is incubation or rest. During incubation you are recharged and strengthened and healed from any injuries you sustained during the other stages.
Regardless, of the stage you are in, you must Continue. Don’t give up on your purpose because of circumstances. Don’t quit because others don’t understand. They don’t have to understand your purpose, neither do they have to support your purpose. Nevertheless, that doesn’t alter, change, or negate your purpose. You keep going because You know what you were called to do and You can do it. Walk in it. There are people waiting for what you have to offer. Continue.
