Mining my Purpose
•
We were all intentionally created, which means, we all have purpose. Yet, many are not quite sure exactly what that purpose may be. That’s okay. The most important thing is that you know that there is something uniquely special about you. Your purpose is yours alone, and no one can do your purpose but you. That is why it is critical for each of us to discover and walk in our purpose.
If you do not know your purpose, then finding or recovering your purpose is a process. I like to think of that process in terms of a mining expedition. First, you must accept the fact that you are capable of having purpose. You are worth something to a creator somewhere. You were not an accident, but an intention. You are meant to affect the world around you.
Then, you must accept that you are not limited by what other people have said about you. You are not bound by others’ opinions. “Mama said I wasn’t going to be anything.” “Daddy said I was no good.” “So-and-so used me as a (you fill in the blank).” I will not deny the realities of your experience, but I will say that what has happened, and in some cases, what is happening to you does not change, minimize, or negate your purpose.
Finally, you must commit to the mining expedition – the process of discovering your purpose. For many, purpose is buried beneath the baggage of life. But it’s there and you can get to it! There are multiple steps inherent to the mining process, not all of which are easy. In any mining expedition, the good stuff is usually buried deep within the core of the mining site. This means that there is going to need to be some drilling, digging, and maybe even some blasting to get rid of all the stuff underneath which the true gem is buried. Then, some crushing and grinding might be required to liberate the gem from the things holding it in place. Additionally, there will be some sifting required to separate the gem and set it apart from all of the other stuff that has become so much a part of it. Don’t worry if, initially, the gem seems a little unrefined because once it is discovered and recovered, the gem will be treated so that its natural greatness and beauty is evident.
Your purpose is your gem, and discovering it is worth the process.
