What Is That In Thine Hand?

What is keeping you from doing your purpose?  The truth is likely nothing, and many of us are probably unwittingly doing our purpose in some way or another.  However, if you have yet to discover and understand your purpose, you cannot channel your gifts and energy towards performing it.  Additionally, not knowing your purpose may cause you to feel unmotivated, unnecessary, and/or directionless, as if you are simply flailing around in this world without much intention.  Yet, some are not doing their purpose because they feel ill-equipped.  They simply do not feel that they have what they need to go forward. My question to those is, “What is that in thine hand” (Exodus 4:2)?

Yes, this is the very same question that God asked Moses when Moses imagined every reason why he should not go forth and do what he was created and intended to do.  Moses questioned his position (“Who am I to…?).  He questioned his ability and focused on his failings.  He also questioned his resources.  What he did not know, like many of us today, is that purpose is not developed over time.  It is intended from the outset.  You were created WITH purpose; therefore, in your forming, everything you need to do your purpose was built in. Simply put, you already have everything you need to get started.  If your purpose seems larger than your current abilities and resources, then start small.

Many confuse purpose with platform.  Yes, maybe you will perform in amphitheaters or speak to millions, but those are platforms. You can do your purpose anywhere.  You do not need a stage, a lot of money, a big office, or any of those things to perform your purpose.  You do not need to be the smartest or most beautiful or most whatever to do your purpose. No.  “What is that in thine hand?” You need to take inventory because whatever you have is more than enough.  Stop waiting until…! The circumstances may never be perfect. It may be 10 years before you finish that next degree.  You may never get invited to perform at a sold-out stadium.  Nevertheless, you have something to offer that only you can provide. Someone needs exactly what you’ve got.

Simply put, there are no more excuses.  You already have what you need.  You’ve been holding on to it for years on end.  Go ahead and use it, knowing that what you already have can be transformed at any moment into exactly what you need! I’m excited about it.  Go ahead…do it!
